Kenyan Athletes Sweep Elite Races at 2024 Los Angeles Marathon
Kenyan athletes showcased their dominance at the prestigious LA Marathon, with Dominic Ngeno and Stacy Ndiwa clinching the top spots in the men’s and women’s elite races, respectively. The marathon, which saw a record-breaking number of participants, witnessed Ngeno securing victory with an impressive time of 2:11:01, closely followed by fellow Kenyan Cosmas Kiplimo, while Ndiwa claimed her second consecutive title in the women’s category clocking 2:25:29.
The race, organized by the LA Marathon, attracted over 26,000 entrants, marking one of the largest fields in the event’s history. Participants from all 50 states and 70 nations, including notable figures like Diplo and Mayor Karen Bass, took on the challenging course that weaved through iconic Los Angeles landmarks.
Notable figures such as Joan Benoit Samuelson, the inaugural Olympic women’s marathon winner, and the late Tom LaBonge were also honored during the marathon, adding a touch of sentiment to the competitive event.
The marathon featured a diverse range of charitable partners, including Angel City Pit Bulls, Team TMF, and UCLA Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation, among others, showcasing the spirit of giving and community involvement in the sporting event.
