Ketel Marte Activated for Diamondbacks Before Phillies Series

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Arizona Diamondbacks welcomed back star second baseman Ketel Marte on Friday after reinstating him from the 10-day injured list. Marte missed four weeks due to a hamstring strain sustained on April 4 while running the bases against the Washington Nationals.
To make room for Marte on the active roster, the Diamondbacks optioned outfielder Jorge Barrosa to Triple-A Reno. Marte hinted at his return with an Instagram post from Philadelphia.
“It’s the worst-kept secret in baseball: Ketel sent out that he’s on his way to Philly,” said D-backs manager Torey Lovullo. “He’s not going to Philly to see the Liberty Bell; he’s coming here to play some baseball. There’s a really good chance he’s going to be playing second base tonight.”
Marte only played eight games before his injury but boasted an impressive batting line of .346/.469/.462 with three doubles. He did not undergo a minor league rehab assignment and is expected to add depth to the D-backs lineup as they face strong competition.
The Diamondbacks have fared well offensively during Marte’s absence, particularly with players like Corbin Carroll, Geraldo Perdomo, Pavin Smith, and Josh Naylor delivering strong performances. However, Marte’s ability to hit both left-handed and right-handed pitching, demonstrated by his 36 home runs and 95 RBIs last season, is anticipated to boost the team’s offense.
Arizona’s recent victory against the New York Mets added momentum as they embark on a challenging stretch against contenders including the Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Dodgers, and San Francisco Giants.
This season, Marte is looked upon to help close a gap in the D-backs’ performance against left-handed pitchers, a challenge the team has faced in 2025.
Barrosa returns to Reno after hitting .200 in five games with Arizona. Rookie second baseman Tim Tawa remains on the roster after solid production during Marte’s absence.
