Kevin Bahl, a recent addition to the Calgary Flames, is embracing his new role in a city passionate about its hockey. The 24-year-old defenseman, who stands at an imposing 6-foot-6 and weighs 230 pounds, is expected to make a significant impact playing alongside Rasmus Andersson.

“I’m very excited to be here, to be back in Canada. I’m pumped,” Bahl said, expressing his enthusiasm for the move to Calgary. Bahl spent his early years in British Columbia and Ontario before joining the NHL with the New Jersey Devils. “Everybody knows what’s going on. All the neighbours know what’s going on. They’re up-to-date on everybody.”

Bahl, acquired in a trade involving Jacob Markstrom, faced a slight setback at the start of training due to a lower-body injury. This limited his participation to two exhibition games, allowing him only one chance to play alongside Andersson. In one of these games, he recorded an assist, displaying promising defensive skills.

Despite the challenging start, Bahl is optimistic about his season. Last year, he appeared in all 82 games with the Devils, demonstrating both resilience and reliability. “That’s what I’m here to do – just play as much as I can,” he said.

Another player eager to join the Flames’ roster is Adam Klapka. The Czech hockey player’s inclusion as the fourth-line right-winger seems likely, pending final confirmations. Klapka’s father, eagerly awaiting news, has been following his son’s progress closely as Adam prepares to transition from the AHL to the NHL.

The Flames, continuing their pre-season traditions, gathered for a barbecue this past weekend. This event marks a hopeful point for players eager to secure a spot ahead of the Monday roster deadline. Coach Ryan Huska acknowledged the depth seen in training, stating, “There are a lot of guys that had very good camps for us.”

As the Flames prepare for their next practice session, the team is monitoring forward Yegor Sharangovich‘s condition following an injury scare. Sharangovich was last season’s top scorer and is anticipated to play a key role again this year.
