Kevin Costner El Lejano Oeste Documentary

MADRID, Spain – Kevin Costner is back, this time focusing on the complexities of the American West in his new documentary series, El Lejano Oeste por Kevin Costner (The Far West by Kevin Costner). The eight-part series, which premiered on Canal Historia on November 3, 2025, aims to challenge traditional Western narratives.

Produced and narrated by the Oscar-winning actor alongside Pulitzer Prize winner Doris Kearns Goodwin, the series offers a fresh perspective on key events in Western history. Costner’s documentary shifts away from the typical cowboy vs. outlaw stories and instead highlights the intricate relationships between indigenous nations and settlers.

“This series embodies storytelling as it should be: honest and gripping,” said Costner. Each of the eight episodes reveals significant moments from Western lore, presenting a balanced portrayal of the challenges faced by both indigenous peoples and settlers.

The project is a continuation of Costner’s long-standing connection to the Western genre, following his acclaimed role in Yellowstone and his Oscar-winning film, Dances with Wolves. Although he has recently faced challenges in other projects, including Horizon, his enthusiasm for exploring Western themes is as strong as ever.

Through this documentary, Costner and Goodwin aim to break through the nostalgia often associated with Westerns, inviting audiences to confront the complex realities that shaped this iconic American landscape. It’s a series that acknowledges both courage and the often overlooked darker aspects of history.

As new episodes air through late November 2025, viewers are encouraged to reevaluate the myths surrounding the American West. “It’s about rediscovering the region as a place of resilience and ambition,” Costner remarked.
