Barranquilla, ColombiaKevin Mier, the young goalkeeper of the Colombian national team, received praise from head coach Néstor Lorenzo after a strong performance in a recent match against Peru. Mier helped secure a crucial 0-0 draw at the Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Meléndez on June 9, 2025.

In a press conference prior to the upcoming match against Argentina, Lorenzo commended Mier for his efforts, stating, “What Kevin did reaffirmed the moment he’s been in over the past months at Cruz Azul. He did very well, and I am satisfied with his performance. It’s likely he will play in the next match.”

Mier made his international debut during the World Cup qualifiers and showcased his skills, solidifying his position as a leading contender for the starting goalkeeper role over established players Camilo Vargas and Álvaro Montero. Last season, he played a total of 48 matches, achieving 21 clean sheets and accumulating more than 4,000 minutes on the pitch.

This year, Mier celebrated his first title with Cruz Azul, lifting the CONCACAF Champions Cup and reaching the semifinals of the 2025 Clausura tournament. Lorenzo’s confidence in Mier comes at a pivotal moment as Colombia prepares for the challenging upcoming fixtures.
