Khalil Mack Chargers Wild Card Game 2025

Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Khalil Mack has issued a rallying cry ahead of the team’s Wild Card Round matchup against the Houston Texans this Saturday. The 33-year-old edge rusher, in the final year of his contract, emphasized the urgency for the Chargers to capitalize on their current roster and make a deep playoff run. “It’s one of those rare opportunities, rare situations, where we got the right group of people together. What are we going to do?” Mack told ESPN. “We ain’t got no time to waste. Especially me. We’ve got to win now.”

Mack, a nine-time Pro Bowler, joined the Chargers in March 2022 via a trade with the Chicago Bears. While he earned another Pro Bowl selection this season, his production has dipped compared to his standout 2023 campaign, where he recorded 74 tackles and 17 sacks. This season, he tallied 39 tackles and six sacks, signaling a potential decline in his performance.

The Chargers, under first-year head coach Jim Harbaugh, finished the regular season with an 11-6 record, securing the No. 5 seed in the AFC playoffs. Mack initially expressed skepticism about Harbaugh’s hiring but has since praised the coach’s honesty and vision. “He’s not the type of dude to lie to you. And I’ve been lied to before,” Mack said. “I respected it, man.”

Harbaugh’s leadership has revitalized a Chargers team that won just five games in 2023. Mack, who played in all 16 games this season, contributed 39 tackles, six sacks, two forced fumbles, and nine passes defended. Despite his individual accolades, Mack remains focused on team success, particularly in the playoffs, where the Chargers have not advanced past the Wild Card Round since 2018.

The Chargers will face a Texans team led by rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud, who has been a revelation this season. Mack and the Chargers’ defense will need to contain Stroud and the Texans’ offense to keep their playoff hopes alive. With Mack’s future in Los Angeles uncertain, this postseason could mark the end of an era for the veteran linebacker and the current core of the Chargers’ roster.
