Kim Mulkey’s Basketball Hoop Skirt Steals the Show at LSU Game
LSU women’s basketball head coach Kim Mulkey turned heads during Sunday’s game against Auburn by wearing a 3D basketball hoop skirt, complete with netting, as part of her courtside attire. The 62-year-old coach, known for her bold fashion choices, paired the skirt with a black sweater featuring a basketball and backboard design, red pants, and a belt resembling a basketball rim.
The Tigers secured a 73-63 victory over Auburn, extending their winning streak to 17 games. Mulkey’s outfit, however, became the talk of the game. During a post-game press conference, she revealed that the ensemble was delivered to her home on Friday, and she “wasn’t even there” when it arrived. She jokingly added, “They sell this stuff, Queen of Sparkles. I need to get an NIL deal with them.”
Sunday’s game also marked LSU’s “Dress Like Kim Mulkey Day,” with fans donning extravagant outfits, blonde wigs, and glitter to mimic the coach’s iconic style. Mulkey’s basketball hoop skirt quickly went viral on social media, with many praising her creativity and flair.
Mulkey’s fashion statements are nothing new. Over the years, she has worn sequin tiger-print suits, St. Patrick's Day-themed sweaters, and rainbow sequin dusters, among other eye-catching outfits. Her March Madness 2023 look—a green-and-pink tweed floral blazer with pink ostrich feathers—also garnered widespread attention.
As LSU continues its winning streak, Mulkey’s courtside fashion remains a highlight for fans and a testament to her unique personality. “Look at all the sparkles out there,” Mulkey said during the press conference. “It hasn’t been that way since I got here.”
