Kimi Antonelli Formula 1 Crash Monza

Kimi Antonelli, an 18-year-old Formula 2 driver, made headlines during his first Formula 1 weekend with Mercedes at the Italian Grand Prix. The young racer experienced an unfortunate incident just ten minutes into his debut, crashing out of the opening free practice session.

During the session held at Monza, Antonelli had the opportunity to drive George Russell‘s updated W15 car. After demonstrating some impressive early speed, things took a turn for the worse when he lost control of the vehicle at the high-speed Parabolica corner.

The incident occurred as Antonelli dropped the rear of the car while entering the turn, which led to a slide across the track and into the gravel. The car subsequently made contact with the barriers, resulting in significant damage that will require extensive repairs by the Mercedes mechanics before the next practice session.

Following the crash, Antonelli promptly communicated with the team over the radio, assuring them that he was “okay,” although he did express frustration with the incident. Team principal Toto Wolff responded calmly, reassuring him with, “Kimi, all good. All good, Kimi.”
