Kings Aim for Historic Streak Without Injured Malik Monk Against Bucks
MILWAUKEE, Wis. — The Sacramento Kings face a critical test Tuesday night as they conclude their three-game road trip against the Milwaukee Bucks, aiming for their eighth consecutive win—a feat not achieved in over two decades. However, their quest will be more challenging without the services of guard Malik Monk, who was ruled out with a right groin injury.
Monk, a key contributor to the Kings’ recent success, arrived at Tuesday’s shootaround in Milwaukee in sweats and slippers, unable to participate. Originally listed as questionable, his absence leaves a significant void in Sacramento’s lineup. Monk has been instrumental during the Kings’ seven-game win streak, averaging 42.1% shooting, 4.3 rebounds, 7.6 assists, and 1.7 steals in 36.1 minutes per game.
“It’s hard to replicate what Monk does,” said a team source. “His energy and swagger are irreplaceable.” Monk’s promotion to a starting role this season has paid dividends, particularly during the absence of star point guard De'Aaron Fox, who has been sidelined for three games.
Meanwhile, the Bucks will also be shorthanded, with guard Pat Connaughton (bilateral ankle) ruled out. However, two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo (right patella) has been upgraded to probable, giving Milwaukee a boost.
Sacramento will likely turn to young guard Keon Ellis to fill Monk’s role. Ellis has shown promise, averaging 45.8% shooting, 4.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 2.7 steals in 32 minutes during Fox’s absence. “It will take a group effort to get the job done,” the source added.
The Kings’ last eight-game win streak occurred during the 2004-05 season. With momentum on their side, Sacramento remains optimistic despite the challenges. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CST at Fiserv Forum.
