Kings Basketball Team Doug Christie Keegan Murray Engagement

Sacramento, Calif. — Doug Christie, interim coach of the Sacramento Kings, lightened the mood during a press conference Friday with a humorous take on player Keegan Murray‘s recent engagement. Murray, 24, proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Carly, during the All-Star Weekend in Napa, California.

Christie delivered a cheeky comment regarding the engagement photo, saying, ‘The fact that you got down on one knee tells me that you can get low on defense, so plan on that.’ His remarks brought laughter from reporters and highlighted Murray’s dual role as both a player and a soon-to-be husband.

The engagement news prompted Christie, who is married himself, to express his and the team’s excitement for the young forward. ‘We were happy for him,’ he noted. ‘Well done. He’s a great kid and I’m sure he will be a great husband.’

On the court, Murray has been making strides in his performance this season, averaging 12 points and 7.1 rebounds in a career-high 36 minutes per game. His shooting statistics show he is connecting on 43.5 percent of his shots from the field and 32.2 percent from three-point range.

Christie emphasized that while personal milestones are significant, Murray’s focus will need to shift back to his defensive game as he continues to adapt to the pressures of the NBA.
