Kings Defeat Grizzlies 138-130 in High-Scoring NBA Showdown
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento Kings secured a thrilling 138-130 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday night at the Golden 1 Center, extending their winning streak to three games. De’Aaron Fox led the Kings with 23 points, while Malik Monk added 29 points, including a crucial 3-pointer during a decisive 20-10 run in the fourth quarter.
The Kings dominated the first half, shooting 52.7% from the field and dishing out 21 assists. They led 78-72 at halftime, but the Grizzlies fought back, tying the game at 100-all late in the third quarter. Memphis briefly took a 110-109 lead in the fourth quarter after two free throws by Jaren Jackson Jr., who finished with 28 points.
Sacramento’s depth proved critical, with Monk and Fox combining for 52 points. Rookie guard Anthony Carter Jr., the No. 13 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, made his debut for the Kings, contributing nine points and seven rebounds off the bench. Carter, the son of Grizzlies assistant coach Anthony Carter, returned after recovering from left shoulder surgery.
The Grizzlies were led by Desmond Bane, who scored 31 points, and Jackson, who added 28. Despite their efforts, Memphis struggled to contain Sacramento’s offense, which shot 52.7% from the field and made 17 3-pointers in the first half alone.
Both teams showcased their offensive firepower, combining for 150 points in the first half. The Kings’ ability to maintain their composure in the fourth quarter, highlighted by Monk’s clutch shooting, sealed the win.
The Kings will next face the Golden State Warriors in San Francisco on Sunday, while the Grizzlies conclude their five-game road trip against the Warriors on Saturday.
