Knapp Sets Record with 59 as Cognizant Classic Moves to Round Two

PALM BEACHES, Florida — The 2025 Cognizant Classic, part of the PGA Tour’s Florida Swing, is poised for an exciting second round on Friday, February 28, following a record-breaking performance from Jake Knapp on Thursday.
Knapp made history by shooting a stunning 12-under 59 at PGA National‘s Champion Course, marking just the 15th sub-60 round in PGA Tour history. His brilliant display of skill gave him a four-shot lead over a trio of competitors tied at 8-under heading into the second round.
“I’ve played well here before, but this round exceeded my expectations,” Knapp said after his round. “I just made some really good putts and capitalized on the opportunities I had.”
Among those trailing Knapp are Daniel Berger, Sami Valimaki, and Russell Henley, all positioned at eight under par. Not to be overlooked, former major champion Jordan Spieth posted a solid 6-under 65 and will be looking to make a move on Friday.
The second round kicks off with tee times starting at 6:45 a.m. ET, while Golf Channel will broadcast the action live from 2 to 6 p.m. ET. Fans can also tune in via NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports App, which will stream Golf Channel’s coverage for cable subscribers.
This tournament not only showcases the talent of seasoned professionals but also features young stars such as Cameron Young and Min Woo Lee, both eager to secure their first PGA Tour title. Additionally, amateur Luke Clanton, fighting to earn a permanent spot on the Tour, made the cut after shooting a 4-under 67.
“I just want to enjoy the experience and see how far I can go,” Clanton said. “Every round under par is a step in the right direction.”
As the tournament progresses, players will have one final opportunity to qualify for the prestigious Arnold Palmer Invitational, adding to the stakes and excitement of this week’s events in Florida.
The total purse for the Cognizant Classic is $9.2 million, with the winner receiving $1.656 million and 500 FedEx Cup points—adding yet another layer of competition for those on the course.
Fans can follow all the action as these golfers strive for victory in this pivotal early-season event.
