NEW YORK, N.Y. — The New York Knicks are set for a playoff run, but significant doubts linger following recent performances against top NBA teams. However, optimism remains, particularly after former NBA player Patrick Beverley expressed confidence in the team’s potential during his podcast.

“Don’t be surprised if the Knicks go far this year because P.J. Tucker’s on the team now,” Beverley asserted. Tucker, who signed a two-year deal with the Knicks earlier this month, joins the team amid questions surrounding their postseason capabilities. He was brought in initially to serve as a stabilizing force during a challenging West Coast trip in early March.

Despite not seeing consistent playing time and mainly contributing during garbage minutes, Tucker’s veteran presence has already begun impacting the team. During star guard Jalen Brunson‘s recent absence, the Knicks managed a 9-6 record, remaining in third place in the Eastern Conference standings. While Tucker’s contributions on the court have been minimal, his encouragement from the sidelines has fostered a sense of camaraderie among players.

Other players have also stepped up during this period, with OG Anunoby showcasing the best performance stretch of his career. If the Knicks aim for postseason success, all players must elevate their contributions, particularly beyond Brunson and All-Star Karl-Anthony Towns. Every member of the roster will need to play a vital role in the playoff chase.

As discussions of roster improvements circulate, the Knicks are reportedly exploring trade possibilities to strengthen their frontcourt. Recent speculation suggests a potential deal involving center Mitchell Robinson heading to the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for Mark Williams. This move aims to secure a more consistent interior presence beside Towns.

“A rim-runner does wonders for this team on both ends of the floor, and it might want to fill that role with a cheaper, more reliable option than Robinson,” sports analyst Jake Buckley noted regarding Williams.

Williams has emerged as an underrated talent while playing for the struggling Hornets. Averaging 15.4 points and 10.1 rebounds per game, the 23-year-old possesses a commanding presence in the paint, shooting an impressive 60.9 percent from the field this season.

His ability to score effectively, combined with his defensive skills—averaging 1.2 blocks per contest—makes the Duke University product an attractive trade target for New York. A potential pairing with Brunson in the pick-and-roll could provide additional offensive options, while not compromising the team’s rim protection.

With Williams, the Knicks could pursue the championship they seek next season, all while saving over $6 million compared to Robinson’s contract in the upcoming season.
