Mitchell Robinson Knicks Basketball Game April 2025

NEW YORK, New York — Mitchell Robinson highlighted his 27th birthday with a stellar performance for the New York Knicks on April 1, 2025, contributing significantly to their 105-91 victory over the 76ers. Robinson, returning to form after missing the first 58 games of the 2024-25 season, scored 14 points and secured seven offensive rebounds, leading to six second-chance points.

Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau emphasized the importance of those extra possessions, stating, “We need that pressure. Those extra possessions are huge for us.” This game marked Robinson’s second time surpassing 20 minutes this season, an encouraging sign as he aims to regain his rhythm.

After being sidelined for much of the season due to injuries, Robinson expressed confidence in his recovery, saying, “I feel like I can” return to full strength by the end of the regular season. He acknowledged the ongoing work necessary to improve his timing and effectiveness in securing offensive rebounds, noting, “Still got a lot of work to do, you know what I mean.”

Despite not playing in the fourth quarter, Robinson demonstrated his offensive talents early in the game. He secured his first points with a dunk off an offensive rebound and tipped in his second before executing a Eurostep for another dunk, giving the Knicks a solid lead at halftime.

The victory came against a depleted 76ers team missing key players such as Joel Embiid and Paul George. Robinson’s contributions were pivotal, showcasing how he can elevate the Knicks’ performance, especially with Karl-Anthony Towns sidelined due to left knee soreness.

Robinson’s strong showing contrasted with Precious Achiuwa‘s struggles, who committed two turnovers, emphasizing the significance of Robinson’s role in the team. “He’s a problem,” said 76ers player Landry Shamet regarding Robinson’s impact.

The Knicks’ offensive efficiency remained high, with five players scoring in double figures. Robinson made only his second start of the season and continues to build momentum as the playoffs approach. As the team faces the Cavaliers in a back-to-back matchup, questions remain about Towns’ availability and Robinson’s capacity to sustain back-to-back play.

The Knicks have also added veteran forward P.J. Tucker, reinforcing their lineup amid these injury challenges. Tucker’s defensive skills were highlighted as complementary to the team’s needs, with Thibodeau pointing to the importance of veteran leadership.

Meanwhile, Knicks’ forward Josh Hart made a notable buzzer-beating layup to end the third quarter, which helped maintain the team’s momentum. “His presence of mind… it was a much-needed play for us,” Thibodeau commended. The organization reflects on its current standings and strategy as the season progresses, with hopes to return key players to bolster the squad.
