Knicks Grizzlies Nba Game February 28, 2025

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — In a thrilling finish on Friday night, the New York Knicks edged the Memphis Grizzlies 114-113 thanks to OG Anunoby‘s decisive three-pointer with 5.1 seconds remaining.

With the game on the line, Knicks guard Jalen Brunson, known for his clutch performances, opted to assist rather than take the final shot. He drove into the paint and kicked the ball out to Anunoby, who calmly sank the three-pointer, marking a pivotal moment in the contest. Brunson’s assist capped a strong game where he led the Knicks with 23 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.

“I thought the pass was the right play, and it was a great play,” said Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau. “OG was right and ready, great shot preparation and he let it fly. That was beautiful.”

The victory allowed the Knicks to sweep the season series against the Grizzlies, improving their record to 38-21. This win was particularly impressive as Memphis entered the game as the second seed in the Western Conference.

Brunson had previously executed another crucial play, making a three-pointer that put the Knicks ahead by one with 24 seconds left. However, Ja Morant quickly responded with an and-one driving layup, giving the Grizzlies a brief advantage.

“Knowing that situation, the attention JB gets on that, I knew I might be open,” Anunoby remarked. “So just be ready.”

The Grizzlies had maintained control for most of the first half, leading by nine points at one point and going into the halftime break with a three-point lead. However, the Knicks surged ahead with ten minutes remaining in the fourth, leading to back-and-forth scoring until Anunoby’s clutch shot.

“You’re gonna be tested a lot of different ways, and it’s always great to win,” Thibodeau added after the closely contested match.

Despite facing foul troubles from key starters, the Knicks found contributions from their entire roster. Every Knicks starter scored in double digits while Miles McBride came off the bench to add 17 points on an efficient 7-for-11 shooting.

“I think it’s Brunson’s mindset,” Josh Hart said. “Obviously his shot-making, but his playmaking is the biggest thing.”

While Brunson’s performance shined, Karl-Anthony Towns had a rough outing due to foul issues, scoring only 11 points in 31 minutes. Nevertheless, the Knicks managed to leverage their solid bench depth throughout the game.

Robinson’s presence was bolstered by his return from injury, as he provided critical minutes off the bench after a lengthy hiatus. His contributions will be pivotal for the team moving forward as they pursue playoff positioning.

Overall, the matchup at the FedEx Forum was a showcase of determination from both teams, with the Knicks proving their resilience and ability to perform under pressure.
