Kraken’s Schwartz Joins Elite Company with 25 Goals in Thrilling Victory

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Seattle Kraken forward Jaden Schwartz achieved a significant milestone on April 13, 2025, scoring his 25th goal of the season against the St. Louis Blues, the team he helped win a Stanley Cup six years ago. Schwartz is now the only Kraken player other than Jared McCann to reach this goal mark in a single season.
The Kraken triumphed over the Blues with a 4-3 win decided in a dramatic seven-round shootout, following an eventful game. Chandler Stephenson secured the win by netting the final shot past St. Louis goalie Jordan Binnington, while Kraken goalie Philipp Grubauer stopped Jimmy Snuggerud‘s attempt to clinch the victory. This marked only the second shootout win for the Kraken this season, their first since a 4-3 victory against the Minnesota Wild in the opening week.
Midway through the third period, Shane Wright notched his 19th goal of the season, tying the game for the Kraken in a confusing play where the puck deflected off his skate and into the net. The Kraken initially led 1-0 before the Blues equalized early in the final frame. Radek Faksa scored just over a minute into the period, taking advantage of a rebound while Grubauer was down.
Michael Eyssimont responded five minutes later, scoring to put Seattle back in front. However, the lead was short-lived, with Colton Paryko scoring just 37 seconds later to tie the game again. Nick Leddy quickly put the Blues ahead with a powerful shot from the high slot, leaving the Kraken struggling to regain control.
The victory guarantees the Kraken will finish the season with at least a .500 record at home for only the second time in franchise history. Their home record stands at 18-17-5, with one final game against the Los Angeles Kings still ahead. The team is also just two victories shy of their franchise high for home wins, achieved during their only playoff season two years ago.
Schwartz, who is nominated for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy for his perseverance and dedication to the sport, noted the significance of his scoring achievement. “It’s been a journey back to form, but staying healthy plays a big role. It’s gratifying to see that hard work pay off,” he said.
This marks Schwartz’s highest goal total in a decade, equaling the 25 goals he scored during his breakout season with the Blues in 2013-14. Prior to this season, the 32-year-old had never played more than 71 games in a season with the Kraken, missing considerable time due to injury last year.
Schwartz’s goal was a result of a fortunate bounce. During a 2-on-1 rush, his attempted cross-ice pass was blocked, but the puck returned right to him, allowing him to take a clean shot into an open side of the net as Binnington shifted to his right. The Kraken’s defense made it tough for the Blues, capturing just 12 shots during the first two periods of play. Grubauer made crucial saves throughout, including a pivotal stop against Robert Thomas during a Blues power play late in the second period.
