Kurt Angle on WWE’s Future and Vince McMahon’s Departure
WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle has shared his insights on the current state of WWE following the resignation of Vince McMahon. In an interview with Zack Heydorn for *The Takedown on SI*, Angle expressed his confidence in WWE’s continued success despite McMahon’s departure. McMahon resigned in January 2024 amid allegations of sexual assault and sex trafficking, which he has denied, but remains under investigation.
Angle emphasized that the individuals who were under McMahon’s leadership are well-equipped to handle the business. “I think he’s been so much of a part of it that it really doesn’t matter now, because the guys that were underneath him know the business in and out the way Vince did,” Angle said. He highlighted the roles of Triple H and Paul Heyman, stating that they know the business “pretty damn good” and can be relied upon for the business to continue growing.
Angle also noted that the wrestling business is cyclical, with periods of high popularity followed by struggles, but he believes it will always endure. “It’s going to continue to triumph and it’s going to continue to get bigger,” he said. “It’s going to go in cycles, it’s going to be really popular, then it’s going to be struggling again. Then it’ll be very popular again and It’ll struggle again. It’s always gone in these cycles, but the business will always be here, because you’re going to have incredible individuals like Triple H and Paul Heyman”.
In addition to discussing WWE’s future, Angle has also reflected on his own career, including his lack of a business mindset when he first entered the WWE. In a recent interview, he discussed how this oversight affected his career and contract negotiations.
