Kylian Mbappé Extends Scoring Streak in Real Madrid’s Narrow Victory Over Alavés
In an electrifying match held at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, Real Madrid edged past Deportivo Alavés with a 3-2 victory in the Spanish La Liga on September 24, 2024. The match saw Kylian Mbappé extending his impressive scoring streak, netting his sixth goal in five matches for the club.
Lucas Vázquez opened the scoring for Real Madrid just a minute into the game, assisted by Vinícius Júnior. Vázquez’s effort set the tone early, as Real Madrid dominated possession with 67% by the hour mark. In the 40th minute, Mbappé doubled their advantage by exchanging a slick give-and-go with Jude Bellingham, showcasing his skill to maneuver past the Alavés defense before slotting the ball into the net.
The second half commenced with Rodrygo adding a third goal to Madrid’s tally in the 48th minute, following a rapid counter-attack. “We played a great match for 80 minutes, but we suffered more than we should have in the end,” Lucas Vázquez commented on the team’s performance.
Alavés mounted a surprising comeback late in the game with two quick goals. Carlos Benavídez found the net in the 85th minute, followed closely by Kike García in the 86th, threatening to upset Real’s apparent comfort. Despite continuous pressure and several corners towards the end, Alavés could not secure the equalizer.
Real Madrid’s coach, Carlo Ancelotti, marking his 300th match with the club, fielded a strong lineup amidst their hectic match schedule. Mbappé’s efforts saw a disallowed goal in the 22nd minute due to an offside, and he was later substituted by Arda Güler in the final 10 minutes.
Madrid’s victory keeps them one point behind league leaders Barcelona, who are slated to meet winless Getafe. The tight contest highlights Real Madrid’s need to tighten their defense as they prepare for their upcoming derby match against Atletico Madrid.
Meanwhile, Sevilla claimed a 2-1 victory over Valladolid, with Chidera Ejuke scoring the winning goal. However, their match was marred by a leg injury to midfielder Saúl Ñíguez. Elsewhere, Valencia managed a goalless draw against Osasuna following their season-opening win.
