Kylian Mbappe Real Madrid Football Match

MADRID, Spain — Kylian Mbappe scored the only goal as Real Madrid defeated nine-man Getafe 1-0 on October 19, 2025, moving above reigning champions Barcelona to climb back to the top of La Liga.

Getafe faced a significant setback early in the match when Allan Nyom was sent off for violent conduct just 44 seconds after being substituted onto the pitch. Referee deemed Nyom had elbowed Vinicius Jr., leaving Getafe a man down.

Real Madrid quickly capitalized on their numerical advantage. In the 80th minute, Mbappe received a pass from Arda Guler, navigating through the Getafe defense before slotting the ball past goalkeeper David Soria.

Things worsened for Getafe as striker Alex Sancris was shown a second yellow card with only six minutes remaining, leaving his team with just nine players.

Despite their disadvantage, Getafe nearly equalized in the sixth minute of injury time. Thibaut Courtois, Real’s goalkeeper, made a crucial save against a shot from Hull City loanee Abu Kamara.

Prior to the match, both teams participated in a 15-second standstill to protest Spain’s decision to hold a La Liga match in the United States. Barcelona’s scheduled match against Villarreal will take place at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on December 20.

Real Madrid arrived needing a win to leapfrog Barcelona in the standings. The Catalans won their match against Girona 2-1, putting pressure on Madrid to secure three points.

Soria made several key saves early on, denying Mbappe and later keeping out a free-kick from David Alaba, maintaining a tight scoreline before Mbappe’s late goal sealed the game.

Mbappe’s successful return from injury comes after Jude Bellingham made just his second start of the season following shoulder surgery. However, former Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold remains sidelined due to a hamstring injury.

Next up for Real Madrid is a Champions League clash against Juventus on Wednesday, October 22, as they seek their third win in the group stage.
