Kylian Mbappé Misses Copa del Rey Match After Tooth Extraction

Madrid, Spain — Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappé will not compete in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semifinal against Real Sociedad on Wednesday, having recently undergone a tooth extraction. Despite coach Carlo Ancelotti‘s earlier assurance that the star forward would be fit to play, the French international was absent from the squad announced on Wednesday morning.
Prior to the match, Ancelotti stated, “He had a problem with his tooth, he couldn’t train [Tuesday], but he’ll travel [Wednesday], and everyone who travels has the chance to play.” However, Mbappé was not included in the 21-player roster for the 3:30 p.m. EST game in San Sebastián.
Mbappé, known for his outstanding form, has scored 14 goals so far in 2025 and is a vital asset to the team’s success. Over the last five matches, he netted six goals, which includes a hat trick during Real Madrid’s recent Champions League playoff against Manchester City.
Joining Mbappé on the sidelines will be goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and midfielder Federico Valverde. Courtois, who typically rests during Copa del Rey matches, was not expected to participate, while Valverde is being rested after recovering from an injury sustained in a previous fixture.
Real Madrid’s next games include a La Liga match against Real Betis this Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in Seville, followed by a pivotal Champions League showdown against local rivals Atlético Madrid on Tuesday. The second leg of the Copa del Rey semifinals is scheduled for April 1 in Madrid.
