LAFC Tops Club América 2-1 in Charity Friendly Match
Los Angeles, CA – The LAFC defeated Club América 2-1 in a charity friendly match on February 11, 2025. The match aimed to raise funds for wildfire recovery efforts, which have devastated homes and claimed lives in recent months.
Despite dominating possession in the first half, Club América, coached by André Jardine, was unable to convert their opportunities into goals. Their struggles continued into the second half, where they quickly found themselves in a precarious position.
Shortly after halftime, LAFC seized control of the match. Denis Bouanga capitalized on a defensive error by América, scoring the first goal just one minute into the second half. According to Bouanga, the team was focused and ready after the break. “We knew we needed to come out strong after halftime, and we did,” he said.
At the 60-minute mark, Nathan Ordaz extended LAFC’s lead to 2-0, receiving a well-timed pass from Bouanga just outside the box. “We executed our game plan perfectly at that moment,” Ordaz remarked.
América finally responded at the 63rd minute, with Richard Sánchez scoring after a setup by Miguel Ramírez Pérez. This goal marked a late comeback attempt for the Mexican club, reducing the deficit to 2-1.
The match served as the third international encounter between these two teams, following a LAFC victory in 2020 and a penalty shootout win in September 2022 after a draw. The friendly came as both teams prepare for their upcoming competitive matches. LAFC is set to play the Colorado Rapids in the CONCACAF Champions Cup on February 18, followed by the 2025 Major League Soccer season opener against Minnesota FC on February 22.
