Lakers Convert Goodwin to Standard Contract for Playoffs

LOS ANGELES, California – The Los Angeles Lakers have officially converted guard Jordan Goodwin‘s contract from a two-way deal to a standard NBA contract, making him eligible for the playoffs as the regular season approaches its conclusion. Goodwin’s transition comes after the team waived Cam Reddish to open a roster spot for the promising guard.
Goodwin signed with the Lakers in the middle of the season on a two-way contract and quickly established himself as a critical component of the team’s success. With the expiration of his two-way eligibility, the Lakers were faced with a pivotal decision to secure his services for the postseason.
According to league sources, Goodwin’s new two-year, minimum salary contract includes a team option for the 2025-26 season with a small partial guarantee. The Lakers are expected to exercise this option given Goodwin’s strong performance and potential value to the franchise.
In his 22 appearances this season, Goodwin is averaging 6.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game, showcasing versatility and skill on both offense and defense. His ability to provide tenacious defense has been particularly beneficial, especially after the Lakers dealt Max Christie earlier this season.
Lakers head coach JJ Redick expressed confidence in Goodwin, stating, “Just his competitive spirit, his toughness. He’s been a banshee for us since he’s been with us on the two-way and has provided not just the attitude, the toughness on the court, but he’s played some really good basketball for us.”
The Lakers are looking towards the postseason with this strategic move, and by retaining Goodwin, they are investing in what could become a long-term partnership. With the playoffs approaching, the Lakers will rely on Goodwin’s defensive prowess and presence on the boards.
Reddish, who was waived, averaged only 3.2 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 0.7 assists in his time with the Lakers, indicating the team’s preference for Goodwin’s contributions as they finalize their playoff roster.
As the playoffs near, Goodwin’s role could expand, and he will have the opportunity to demonstrate his value in critical moments on the court. The Lakers’ decision to adjust their roster now positions them favorably as they pursue a deep playoff run.
