John Collins Playing For Utah Jazz

Salt Lake City, Utah — The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly in discussions with the Utah Jazz about a potential trade for forward John Collins as they look to enhance their roster ahead of the upcoming NBA season. Collins has a $26.6 million player option for next season, which he is expected to exercise. Last season, he averaged 19 points, 8.2 rebounds, and shot 39.9% from beyond the arc.

As the offseason approaches, many speculate the Lakers need to bolster their frontcourt and improve their perimeter defense after a disappointing playoff run. “The Lakers-John Collins has been a conversation that’s been had,” said Andy Larsen, a reporter for the Salt Lake Tribune. Other teams, including the Golden State Warriors, had expressed interest in Collins prior to the trade deadline.

Despite averaging nearly 20 points per game last season, Collins’ trade value may be affected by his hefty contract. Larsen noted, “I don’t expect the Jazz to get value back necessarily in those deals though.” This could make Collins an affordable option for a Lakers team already stacked with power forwards.

Additionally, Lakers’ guard Austin Reaves has been a subject of trade rumors, though the team appears reluctant to part with him. Reaves commented on the team’s future, saying, “I think the sky’s the limit for us. We’re moving in the right direction, especially with adding Luka (Doncic) to our roster.”

While discussions continue regarding Collins, the Lakers have also considered other veterans suitable for their frontcourt, such as Brook Lopez and Clint Capela. It remains uncertain what moves the Lakers will ultimately pursue as the offseason progresses.
