Lakers Hold Off Jazz 108-106 in Competitive Clash
SALT LAKE CITY — Luka Doncic scored 33 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the Los Angeles Lakers edged the Utah Jazz 108-106 on Sunday night. This was Doncic’s first road game of the season, and he played for 34 minutes, contributing eight assists and six rebounds.
James also played a crucial role in the Lakers’ victory, scoring 17 points. He added his previous game’s 11 points and 12 assists during his season debut, having missed training camp and the first 14 games due to injury. The Lakers improved their record to 12-4, marking their fourth consecutive win.
The Jazz, now at 5-11, saw a strong performance from Keyonte George, who scored 12 of his 20 points in a late-game comeback. A pivotal moment occurred when George’s three-pointer cut the deficit to 107-106 with just 41.3 seconds left.
After Doncic hit one of two free throws, the Jazz had one last chance, but George’s contested jumper bounced off the rim just before the final horn sounded. The game remained close with neither team leading by more than nine points throughout.
The Lakers demonstrated resilience, responding to a momentary Jazz lead with a 13-0 run, highlighted by Doncic’s three-pointer. On the other side, the Jazz had a 16-2 run midway through the third quarter, showcasing their competitive spirit.
Maxi Kleber played a crucial role in the Lakers’ defense after a knee injury sidelined a fellow teammate. Kleber’s dunk was the Lakers’ final basket, extending their lead to 107-101 with 1:21 left in the game.
Looking ahead, the Lakers will host the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday, while the Jazz will travel to face the Golden State Warriors on Monday.
