Lakers Waive Christian Wood, Set to Sign Alex Len

LOS ANGELES, CA — The Los Angeles Lakers have waived veteran center Christian Wood to create space for free agent center Alex Len. The move comes amidst roster adjustments following a failed trade for Mark Williams, who had complications during his physical assessment.

According to ESPN‘s Shams Charania, the Lakers made this decision to accommodate Len, a 7-footer who was recently released after being traded by the Sacramento Kings to the Washington Wizards. Though Wood has not played this season due to a knee surgery recovery, the Lakers are positioning themselves for a playoff push.

The Lakers initially targeted Williams, but issues emerging from his physical prompted Los Angeles to rescind the trade. General Manager Rob Pelinka aimed to bolster the center position, a critical need after the team lost Anthony Davis in a previous trade with the Dallas Mavericks.

“We are actively seeking another center after the trade fell through,” a source close to the team stated. “There are still options available in the buyout market, and we believe we can find a suitable player.”

Len, who played a limited role in Sacramento, is regarded as a viable option for the Lakers. He averaged fewer than 10 minutes per game over the past three seasons, but his size and ability to finish around the rim could be beneficial for the team. Len’s decision to Join the Lakers gives him a chance to showcase his skills alongside elite playmakers.

Other potential options for the center position after Wood’s departure include Mo Bamba and Daniel Theis. Both big men have experience and could contribute to bolstering the Lakers’ frontcourt depth.

Additionally, the Lakers’ roster now stands at 15 players after the waiving of Wood, which limits their options. Players like Robin Lopez and Dwight Howard have been mentioned in discussions but would require thorough evaluations.
