Laliga Title Race April 2025

BARCELONA, Spain — With only seven rounds remaining in the 2024/25 LaLiga EA Sports season, the title race is shaping up to be one of the most competitive in recent years. FC Barcelona currently holds the top spot with 70 points, but with their closest rivals just four points behind, the battle for the championship is far from over.

FC Barcelona’s head coach Hansi Flick has had a remarkable first season in Spanish football, leading his team with a combination of skill and resilience. Barcelona has been at the top of the table for most of the season, only falling behind for 10 matchdays. Their recent performance—a hard-fought 1-0 victory against CD Leganés—allowed them to extend their lead over second-placed Real Madrid.

“These games are where leagues are won,” said Barcelona defender Éric García. “It was a night to put the pressure on Madrid.” Remaining fixtures for Barcelona include home matches against RC Celta and Real Madrid, as well as crucial away games against RCD Mallorca and Athletic Club.

In second place, Real Madrid, the defending champions, have found it difficult to maintain consistency this season. They recently suffered a disappointing loss to Valencia CF but managed to secure a 1-0 win against Deportivo Alavés. Currently sitting at 66 points, Real Madrid needs to capitalize on Barcelona’s potential slip-ups in the coming weeks.

“We have to focus on LaLiga and the Copa del Rey,” said Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti after their recent Champions League elimination. “LaLiga is still very much in play.” Madrid’s next match against Athletic Club will be another crucial test for the team.

Meanwhile, Atlético de Madrid, who were once at the top of the league, have struggled recently and are now in third place with 63 points. Coach Diego Simeone‘s team has only won five of their last 12 matches. Atlético’s remaining fixtures include winnable games against UD Las Palmas and Deportivo Alavés, but they will need to find their form quickly if they hope to challenge for the title.

“We know the capabilities of our team, and we can turn this around,” Simeone stated emphatically. “There are still many points to play for.”

As the season nears its conclusion, the title race is undoubtedly heating up, with Barcelona leading the chase but both Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid poised to capitalize on any mistakes. Fans are eagerly awaiting the upcoming matches, especially the high-stakes El Clasico clash still to come.

In related news, the spotlight also falls on the Ballon d’Or race, with Manchester City‘s Rodri out of the competition due to a season-ending injury. The absence of key players, including Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe, has opened the door for a host of contenders to vie for the prestigious award.
