Lance Lynn Retirement Announcement Podcast

ST. LOUIS, April 1, 2025 — Veteran pitcher Lance Lynn officially announced his retirement from Major League Baseball during a recent episode of his podcast, “Dymin in the Rough,” alongside his wife. The 37-year-old made the announcement after a quiet offseason that left him without a favorable contract offer.

“I am officially retiring from baseball right here, right now… from Major League Baseball, I am done pitching,” Lynn stated in the podcast, expressing relief about stepping away from the daily grind of professional baseball.

Lynn, who has had a storied 13-year career, made his MLB debut in 2011 with the St. Louis Cardinals, where he was part of the World Series champion team. Over the years, he played for six teams, including the Minnesota Twins, New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, Chicago White Sox, and Los Angeles Dodgers.

In 2024, Lynn returned to the Cardinals, making 23 starts and posting a 3.84 ERA while compiling a record of 7-4. Notably, on July 30, he became the 23rd pitcher in history to defeat all 30 Major League teams.

His best season came in 2021 when he was named an All-Star and finished third in the American League Cy Young voting. That year, he posted an impressive 2.69 ERA over 28 starts. Lynn’s peak years included a 2019 season with the Texas Rangers, where he achieved a career-high 7.7 Wins Above Replacement (WAR) along with first-time votes for the Cy Young Award.

Despite his success, Lynn faced challenges in recent years, struggling to replicate his earlier form. Last season, he signed a deal with the Cardinals, allowing him to retire in the uniform that marked his debut. His career record stands at 143 wins and 99 losses with a 3.74 ERA.

His larger-than-life personality and memorable on-field antics have made him a favorite among fans and a respected competitor among players.

Lynn noted that although he had hoped to continue his career, the lack of offers during free agency was a significant factor in his retirement decision. As he steps away from the game, fans and fellow players reflect on a career filled with notable achievements and memorable moments.
