Lando Norris has successfully achieved pole position for the Dutch Grand Prix, displaying an impressive performance that placed him more than three tenths of a second ahead of his closest rival, Max Verstappen.
During the final qualifying session, Norris initially claimed provisional pole before enhancing his time further with a remarkable lap of 1m 09.673s in his McLaren. This exceptional lap pushed Verstappen, who had briefly occupied the top position, down to second place with a time of 1m 10.029s.
Oscar Piastri secured third place, also driving for McLaren, while George Russell emerged as the highest-placed Mercedes driver in fourth. Sergio Perez improved his qualifying performance, running fifth in his Red Bull.
Following them were Charles Leclerc of Ferrari in sixth, Fernando Alonso from Aston Martin in seventh, and Alex Albon, who delivered a commendable eighth place finish for Williams. Completing the top ten were Lance Stroll in ninth for Aston Martin and Pierre Gasly in tenth for Alpine.
Qualifying sessions witnessed some surprising exits, with Carlos Sainz failing to progress past Q2, ultimately finishing in eleventh, and Lewis Hamilton facing potential scrutiny for a possible impeding incident, ending up in twelfth position.
Yuki Tsunoda from RB positioned thirteenth, followed by Haas drivers Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen in fourteenth and fifteenth. Daniel Ricciardo faced a disappointing day as he was eliminated in Q1, finishing in part sixteenth alongside Esteban Ocon in seventeenth and Kick Sauber duo Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu in eighteenth and nineteenth.
Furthermore, Logan Sargeant could not participate in the qualifying session following a serious crash in FP3, placing him at the bottom of the order. The qualifying highlighted the challenges teams faced with weather conditions affecting track performance.
The qualifying commenced under dry conditions after a period of uncertain weather, and the drivers quickly engaged in competition for the best lap times. Despite some drivers utilizing older tyres, others aimed to improve their timing in the latter part of the session.
Norris expressed his joy after achieving pole and praised the efforts of his team while acknowledging the competition from Verstappen, particularly considering the latter’s home advantage. The Dutch Grand Prix is scheduled to begin at 1500 local time on Sunday, creating an anticipation among fans and teams alike.
