MONACO — Lando Norris captured his second pole position of the Formula 1 season on Saturday, becoming the fastest driver in history around the Circuit de Monaco.

Norris achieved this remarkable feat during a highly competitive qualifying session, leaving him ecstatic but highlighting the disappointment of Charles Leclerc, who couldn’t manage to secure the front row. Leclerc, representing Ferrari, expressed frustration at finishing just behind Norris but managed to edge out current championship leader Oscar Piastri.

“It’s tough to come so close and not get pole, but we’ll aim for a strong race,” Leclerc said. His performance is crucial as he seeks to regain significant points in the championship standings.

Max Verstappen, who recently won at Imola, qualified in fifth position, later upgraded to fourth when Lewis Hamilton received a grid penalty bumping back his spot. This placement felt rather lackluster for Verstappen, given his recent successes.

Meanwhile, Mercedes drivers Hamilton and George Russell face an uphill battle, lining up in 14th and 15th positions respectively after a disappointing qualifying session that they will be eager to forget.

The qualifying session set the stage for an exciting race ahead, with the drivers prepared to navigate the challenges of Monaco’s tight and twisting streets.
