Deschutes County Roadwork Construction Traffic

BEND, Ore. — Deschutes County officials have announced multiple road closures across the region as bridge and culvert repair initiatives are set to begin this month. Significant traffic disruptions are anticipated due to various active projects, with many affecting local residents and travelers.

Starting March 14 and continuing through April 14, a single lane of Hamehook Road will be closed 24-hours a day for bridge replacement work. Traffic delays of up to 20 minutes are expected during this period, while Pioneer Loop will also close from March 14 until March 27. A detour will guide drivers via Deschutes Market Road.

In Terrebonne, crews are removing the NE Wilcox Avenue Bridge, with traffic closed between NE 33rd Street and Lambert Road. This closure began March 10, along with culvert work on NW Sedgewick Avenue. As of March 10, that road will be blocked to through traffic until March 13, requiring detours via NW Odem Avenue and NW Almeter Way.

According to Deschutes County Road Department spokesperson, “We advise all motorists to stay alert and be mindful of the traffic changes while crews carry out necessary repairs.” The department aims to complete all projects efficiently, but weather conditions may cause schedules to shift.

In other disruption news, Cascade Lakes Highway and Paulina Lake Road are now closed for winter, with plans to reopen before Memorial Day 2025, weather permitting.

Meanwhile, in Portland, the Bureau of Transportation has alerted the public to upcoming bridge repairs on NE 33rd Avenue over NE Lombard Street. Starting at 6 a.m. on March 15, repairs will follow structural damage caused by an oversized semi-truck collision. The work is expected to conclude by 5 p.m. the same day.

“We ask the public to travel slowly and be cautious in work zones,” said a PBOT representative. “Detours and alternate routes will be in place during the repair work.”

Northbound traffic will be directed to use NE 42nd Avenue if intending to cross NE Lombard Street, while drivers on NE Columbia Boulevard should prepare for single-lane restrictions, leading to potential delays in that area as well.

For more information on traffic and road conditions, the public is encouraged to visit local government websites or call the hotline at 206-293-6302.
