Late Goal Sees Al Ahly Secure Victory Over ZED FC in Egyptian Premier League
Defending champions Al Ahly clinched a hard-fought 1-0 victory over newly-promoted side ZED FC in a thrilling Egyptian Premier League encounter on Thursday night.
The match, which took place at a packed stadium, saw Al Ahly looking to bounce back from recent disappointments after dropping points in their previous league fixtures against ENPPI and NBE FC.
Early on, Al Ahly launched several attacking moves, only to be thwarted by the brilliant saves of ZED’s goalkeeper Aly Lotfi who put on a stellar performance.
In the 75th minute, Al Ahly thought they had broken the deadlock when Ahmed Abdelkader netted a stunning goal, but VAR intervention ruled it out for offside following a close review.
Undeterred by the disallowed goal, the visitors intensified their efforts in the dying minutes, pushing for a breakthrough to claim the crucial three points.
With just a minute remaining before the final whistle, Anthony Modeste orchestrated a play that set up winter-signing Wessam Abou Ali, who unleashed a thunderous shot past Lotfi to secure the victory for Al Ahly.
The win propels Al Ahly up the league standings as they now shift their focus to the highly-anticipated Cairo derby against arch-rivals Zamalek on April 15th.
