The buzz from the 2020 Olympics held in Tokyo in 2021 is still fresh as the medal counts have made headlines around the world. The United States, as usual, took the lead in gold medals, bagging a total of 39. Hot on their heels was China, with 38 golds, while Japan proudly secured third place with 27 gold medals.

But the excitement doesn’t end there! Overall, the US showed dominance with a whopping 113 medals, while Great Britain had a commendable total of 65, placing them fourth and surpassing Japan’s overall count of 58 medals.

Looking ahead, UK Sport has a positive outlook and is aiming for an impressive “between 50 and 70” medals for Team GB at the upcoming Paris Games in 2024.

As the host nation for the upcoming 2024 Olympics, France finished in eighth place in the medal tally at the last Games, with a total of 10 gold medals. David Lappartient, the president of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF), has his eyes set on a top-five finish from the home turf and is eyeing a target of 20 gold medals.

Australia firmly holds its ground in the competitive landscape, having claimed 17 gold medals in Tokyo, landing them in sixth place. They did not set a specific target for medals in Tokyo and have kept a similar mindset for the Paris 2024 Games, with Chef de Mission Anna Meares wanting to relieve some pressure for athletes.
