León Aims to Reverse Misfortunes Against Querétaro in Liga MX Clash

LEÓN, Mexico — Club León faces a critical matchup against Querétaro on April 4 as the team seeks to halt its current losing streak in Liga MX play.
After a promising start to the season that generated excitement among fans, León has stumbled significantly, suffering three consecutive defeats. In a blow to their aspirations, FIFA recently disqualified León from the Club World Cup due to its affiliation with the same economic group as Pachuca, further complicating their outlook.
León’s last home game resulted in a shocking 2-0 loss to Pumas, marking the first time this season they have dropped points at Estadio León. The team’s struggles have largely been attributed to a lack of scoring efficiency; standout forward Jhonder Cádiz has missed several clear opportunities to score, as well as midfielder James Rodríguez who squandered a significant chance in the latest match.
Currently, León ranks third in the Liga MX standings with 26 points, trailing América, the current leader with 30 points, and Toluca, who sits in second place with 27 points. In contrast, Querétaro is in 14th place with a mere 13 points, adding to the pressure on León as they hope to exploit the visitors’ struggles.
Captain James Rodríguez, who joined the team this season, is expected to return to the starting lineup for this crucial encounter. Rodríguez has made an impact, contributing 2 goals and 5 assists in 12 appearances since arriving in Mexico.
The last time these teams met on the field was in October 2024, where León secured a decisive 4-0 victory over Querétaro. The teams will be eager to change their fates as they approach this upcoming match.
Possible lineups are as follows:
Querétaro: Guillermo Allison; Omar Mendoza, Franco Russo, José Canale, Francisco Venegas; Jaime Valencia, Kevin Escamilla, Lucas Rodríguez; Josué Colman, Adonis Preciado, Pablo Barrera.
León: Alfonso Blanco, Israel Reyes, Paul Bellón, Jaine Barreiro, Sebastián Santos; Andrés Guardado, José David Ramírez, Diego Hernández, James Rodríguez, Stiven Mendoza, Jhonder Cádiz.
