THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Lexi Thompson, a prominent name in the LPGA, is making waves at the Chevron Championship after a strong second-round performance of 67, putting her in the top 10 after two rounds.

Thompson, who has been a fixture in major golf tournaments for over 15 years, won the Kraft Nabisco Championship, now known as the Chevron, 11 years ago. Following her announcement a year ago to step back from a full-time LPGA schedule, expectations were low for her this season. However, she has proven that her passion for the game remains. Just weeks after her announcement, she finished as a runner-up at a tournament and made the U.S. Solheim Cup team.

“The biggest difference? More vacations, for sure,” Thompson said. “And not feeling bad about them. I think it’s well deserved.” Now in her 15th year on tour, she admits balancing golf and her personal life is refreshing.

Thompson clarified her competitive spirit is still strong, saying she maintains rigorous practice sessions when home. “I have the freedom to take time off when needed,” she explained. “Every time I play, I still want to win and have that competitive edge.”

This shift in mindset seems to be yielding positive results. After a bogey-bogey start in her recent round, she rallied and finished with an under-par score, demonstrating newfound patience on the course. Her brother and caddie, Curtis, supported her through the tough moments.

As Thompson approaches the final round at the Chevron, Haeran Ryu of South Korea and Mao Saigo of Japan sit tied for the lead at 9 under par, both aiming for their first major championship victory. Thompson, meanwhile, is firmly in the action, tied at 6 under par alongside several other players.

Thompson’s journey, which has included both triumphs and setbacks, reflects a more balanced approach as she embraces a semi-retired status while still aiming for success in high-stakes tournaments. She continues to practice hard, cherishing the blend of competition and personal fulfillment.
