Lindy Duncan Golf Swing At Chevron Championship

THE WOODLANDS, Texas — Lindy Duncan stood on the tee, nervous but focused, during the second round of the Chevron Championship. As she tightened her grip on the club, she visualized one thing: her coach, Sean Foley.

Duncan, a 12-year veteran of the LPGA Tour, made a crucial decision last year that has brought her closer to her first tour win. After shooting a 66 on Friday, she put herself just one stroke off the lead, heading into the weekend of the season’s first major championship.

“I asked him for help with my alignment, just some really basic stuff,” Duncan said, referring to her sessions with Foley, who works at Lake Nona Country Club in Orlando, Florida. Their collaboration began casually but quickly grew as they addressed more significant issues, including Duncan’s problematic ball position and hand placement on the club.

Foley has previously coached Golfer greats like Tiger Woods and Lydia Ko. He made his partnership with Duncan known on social media in January, showcasing their progress. The adjustments have dramatically improved Duncan’s game, helping her overcome what used to be a low, left miss.

On Friday, when she felt uncomfortable over tee shots, Duncan recalled their training sessions. “I could picture him behind me saying, ‘high draw,’ and I just hit it,” she explained. “I was kind of being playful with myself, picturing Sean is right there telling me to hit a high draw.”

Through the first two rounds of the tournament, Duncan has hit 75% of fairways. Alongside physical adjustments, Foley’s guidance has been vital in mentally preparing her for challenges. “He’s really into philosophy, psychology, and perspective. It really took a turn in that direction,” Duncan noted. “He’s been really helpful in talking about what’s going on in life.”

Despite their busy schedules, Duncan and Foley manage to connect when they are both in Orlando. Though he is not physically present this week, Duncan feels his support. “I think about the stuff we talk about every single day,” she said. “So he’s kind of with me every day.”
