Liverpool Eyes Midfielder Martin Zubimendi From Real Sociedad

Liverpool is reportedly looking to strengthen their squad by signing midfielder Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad. The Merseyside club is on the hunt for a new No 6, and Zubimendi, who is just 25 years old, is high on their list.

However, getting Zubimendi to Anfield may not be straightforward. He has a €60 million release clause that Liverpool would need to pay in full, as Real Sociedad might not be open to negotiating a lower fee.

In addition to the financial aspect, Liverpool will also have to convince Zubimendi to make the move. Other clubs, including Arsenal and Barcelona, have shown interest in him before but haven’t succeeded in bringing him on board.

Notably, Zubimendi was part of Spain‘s Euro 2024 winning squad. He played a significant role despite primarily serving as an understudy to Rodri, stepping up during crucial moments in the tournament.

Liverpool’s new head coach, Arne Slot, has been looking for someone to fill the No 6 role effectively. During pre-season, he’s tried out a few different players like Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Ryan Gravenberch in that position, with Gravenberch gaining some praise for his performance.

Slot mentioned in a recent interview that the team is keeping an eye on what’s available in the transfer market. Liverpool is eager to add quality players to their squad, especially given that they still haven’t made any signings this summer.

Meanwhile, Zubimendi has impressed many with his playing style. He’s known for his ability to receive the ball under pressure and has a knack for making smart decisions to build attacks. This is exactly the type of player Slot wants to control the pace of the game.

With the transfer window closing on August 30, Liverpool is keen on making a few signings, including Zubimendi, as they aim to have a strong season ahead.
