Lonnie Walker Iv Euroleague Zalgiris Kaunas

KAUNAS, Lithuania — Lonnie Walker IV will complete the 2024-25 season with BC Zalgiris Kaunas, following an NBA buyout clause in his contract that expired on February 18, according to his agent, George S. Langberg of GSL Sports Group. The 26-year-old shooting guard plans to re-enter the NBA for the 2025-26 season.

Walker signed with Zalgiris in late October, looking to make a significant impact in the EuroLeague. This season, he has been averaging 13.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in approximately 22 minutes of play per game. Although he has faced challenges, such as shooting 38.7% from the field, Walker’s role has grown in the team.

Previously, Walker played six seasons in the NBA with the San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Lakers, and Brooklyn Nets. Over his career, he has averaged 9.8 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game. Last season, he nearly matched those averages, scoring 9.7 points with Brooklyn.

“The decision to stay in Europe was strategic, and it gives Lonnie valuable experience,” Langberg said. “He is eager to make a strong return to the NBA next season.” Walker had previously exhibited flashes of brilliance, including a standout performance in last year’s playoffs where he scored 15 points in a crucial Game 4 against the Golden State Warriors.

Reports earlier this year indicated interest from several NBA teams, sparking speculation about a potential early return. However, Walker chose to maintain his focus on Zalgiris, where he has been given significant playing time, a crucial factor in his development.

“It’s important for players like Lonnie to find the right fit, and Zalgiris provided him with that opportunity,” said Stein, a sports analyst. With options to explore upon his return, Walker’s experience in Europe positions him as an enticing prospect for NBA teams in need of scoring and versatility.

As he prepares for the final stretch of the EuroLeague season, expectations remain high. Walker’s performance in Europe has only solidified his place among potential candidates for next season. The market looks favorable for him, as numerous franchises may be looking for athletic wings to bolster their rosters.

Walker was originally selected as the 18th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft by the Spurs. Since then, he has played a crucial role on multiple teams, contributing both offensively and defensively. His imminent return to the NBA is anticipated by fans and analysts alike, especially considering the significant potential he continues to showcase.
