Los Angeles Chargers Defensive Line

LOS ANGELES, CA – The Los Angeles Chargers, known for one of the best defenses in the NFL last season, are considering improvements to their defensive line as they head into the 2025 season.

With the recent departure of Poona Ford, the Chargers are faced with uncertainty around their defensive front. Players Da'Shawn Hand and Otito Ogbonnia are vying for starting positions, but the team is reportedly looking for additional roster strength.

One possible solution is former Chicago Bears defender DeMarcus Walker. Analysts suggest that Walker could be a good fit for the Chargers, particularly in defensive coordinator Jesse Minter‘s 3-4 scheme. Last season, Walker recorded a 65.0 overall grade from Pro Football Focus while contributing 3.5 sacks for the Bears.

“DeMarcus Walker could offer a solid fit at the 5-technique in Minter’s 3-4 scheme. He represents a significant upgrade over what is currently on the roster,” said one analyst.

After a standout year with the Tennessee Titans in 2022, Walker signed a three-year, $21 million deal with Chicago but was cut after two unremarkable seasons. Even so, many believe he can provide valuable depth a team like the Chargers could benefit from.

Reports indicate that Walker might not command more than $3 to $5 million on a one-year contract, a price range that is manageable for the Chargers given their current cap space.

The Chargers are eager to build on their success following an unexpected playoff appearance in 2024. However, experts agree that a strengthened defensive line is crucial for competing in the highly competitive AFC.

“Adding Walker might not be the flashy move fans want, but it would be a practical solution to bolster the defensive line,” noted a sports commentator.

The Chargers now weigh their options as they strive to enhance their defensive capabilities before the upcoming season.
