Los Angeles Lakers Promote Jordan Goodwin to Standard Contract Amid Roster Changes

LOS ANGELES, California — The Los Angeles Lakers have officially promoted guard Jordan Goodwin from a two-way contract to a standard NBA contract, a decision made necessary by recent roster adjustments.
In a move reported by league sources, the Lakers waived forward Cam Reddish to open a spot for Goodwin, who has become a key contributor for the team this season. Goodwin, 26, has been averaging 6.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 19 games while shooting 47% from the field and 41.3% from three-point range.
“He’s been a huge factor for us,” said Lakers guard Austin Reaves. “I don’t know how out of 30 teams you’re not on a regular contract. It’s impressive how he affects the game without having the ball in his hands.”
Goodwin first joined the Lakers on a two-way deal on February 7 after a brief stint with the South Bay Lakers, the team’s G League affiliate. His performance quickly earned him the trust of head coach J.J. Redick, particularly after the team traded Max Christie and created a void in perimeter defense.
“He came in and filled that void,” Redick noted. “He shows up and competes every night, and we needed that.”
Before signing with the Lakers, Goodwin spent parts of two seasons with the G League’s Capital City Go-Go. However, the two-way contract restricted his availability to only 19 games, and he was ineligible for the postseason. The Lakers’ latest decision ensures that he will be part of their regular season and playoff roster moving forward.
The new contract with the Lakers features a team option for the 2025-26 season, allowing the franchise flexibility heading into the offseason. This conversion underscores not only Goodwin’s development but also the Lakers’ strategy to build a competitive team.
As the NBA trade deadline approaches, speculation swirls regarding the potential for the Lakers to convert other two-way players into standard contracts. However, such moves would necessitate further roster adjustments.
Goodwin’s trajectory this season illustrates the unpredictable nature of professional sports, where he has transitioned between contracts and showed resilience amidst challenges.
His story resonates with others on the team and highlights the importance of every player’s role, reaffirming Reaves’ faith in Goodwin’s capabilities.
The Lakers look to continue harnessing Goodwin’s talents as they push toward the playoffs.
