Los Angeles Sparks Rookie Cameron Brink Suffers Knee Injury in WNBA Game
Los Angeles Sparks‘ rookie sensation, Cameron Brink, endured a setback in Tuesday night’s WNBA matchup against Connecticut as she had to be assisted off the court following a left knee injury during the first quarter.
Brink, the highly touted No. 2 draft pick for the Sparks from Stanford, appeared to lose her footing while driving to the basket in a game that ended in a 79-70 defeat for Los Angeles.
At just 22 years of age, Brink had been showcasing her talents on the court, averaging 8.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game for the struggling Los Angeles team, currently holding a 4-11 record.
With her blocks tally placing her tied for second in the WNBA alongside A'ja Wilson, Brink’s presence on the court has been vital for the Sparks.
Head coach Curt Miller expressed his concern for Brink, stating, ‘Except for the 2019 season I’ve lost a starter to injury every single year I’ve been a head coach in this league. You just have to have the mentality of next person up and rally around it.’
Brink, already a member of the U.S. women’s 3×3 team for the upcoming Paris Olympics, is now facing an uncertain evaluation of her knee injury, with hopes and prayers from her team and fans for a swift recovery.
The Los Angeles Sparks will now turn their attention to facing the New York Liberty in back-to-back games on Thursday and Saturday, hoping to find success despite Brink’s absence on the court.
