LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Tyran Stokes, a senior at Notre Dame Sherman Oaks High School, is being hailed as the best high school basketball player in the country. This year, the talented athlete is expanding his horizons by joining the Knights’ football team as a wide receiver.

Last week, CBS Sports’ Darren Haynes visited Stokes during football practice to see how he was adapting to this new challenge. After running track as a junior, Stokes’s transition to football has attracted significant attention.

“I’ve always loved football, but I wanted to focus on basketball first,” Stokes said. “Now that I’m ready to take on another sport, I want to give it my all.” His commitment to excelling in multiple sports has impressed coaches and fans alike.

Stokes’s basketball accolades include leading his team in points and earning several awards. His athleticism, which has made him a standout on the basketball court, is now being tested on the football field.

Coaches believe that his skills from basketball, such as quick reflexes and speed, will translate well to football. “Tyran has incredible potential here. He’s a natural athlete, and I’m excited to see how he develops in our system,” said Knights football coach Mike Johnson.

Stokes is not the only student-athlete pushing boundaries in high school sports. With more young athletes diversifying their skill sets, the trend is gaining popularity. His dual-sport approach could inspire other athletes to take on similar challenges.

While basketball remains a significant priority for Stokes, he finds joy in learning the game of football and connecting with his teammates. “It’s all about pushing yourself and growing in different ways,” he said.

As Stokes continues through the football season, all eyes will be on him, both for his performance on the field and his impact on young athletes looking to follow in his footsteps.
