St. Louis City Sc Vs Colorado Rapids 2025 Season Opener

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — St. Louis CITY SC is set to commence its third Major League Soccer season on Saturday, February 22, at 7:30 p.m. CT. The match will be held at Energizer Park, where they will host the Colorado Rapids. This game marks the first competitive outing for new head coach Olof Mellberg, who took over the managerial position in November 2024.

Tickets for the eagerly awaited match are available through SeatGeek, with single-seat tickets starting at $51. General admission tickets can be found for as low as $38 before additional fees. As excitement builds, fans can also enjoy a free CITY Block Party beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Lou Fusz Plaza, featuring performances by Tatiana Rose, Smidley, and the British rock band, The Struts.

Gates to Energizer Park will open at 6:00 p.m., and the first 22,500 attendees will receive a commemorative match pennant. A special pre-kick ceremony is scheduled for 7:15 p.m., featuring a light show and national anthem performance by Charles Glenn.

Last season, St. Louis CITY SC faced challenges, finishing without a playoff berth. However, a late-season surge brought them to the second round of the Leagues Cup, with key contributions from summer signings Marcel Hartel, Cedric Teuchert, and Simon Becher, who collectively accounted for 18 of the club’s 27 goals during that period.

In historical matchups, Colorado holds an edge over St. Louis, boasting a record of 2-1-1. Last season, CITY SC suffered a defeat against the Rapids but will look to change their fortunes in the upcoming match. Roman Bürki, the club’s goalkeeper, has previously recorded 17 saves against Colorado in four matches, highlighting his defensive prowess.

Meanwhile, the Colorado Rapids enter the match with a recent victory under their belt, having defeated LAFC 2-1 in the CONCACAF Champions Cup. Midfielder Djordje Mihailovic was pivotal in that match, scoring both goals, as Colorado aims to maintain momentum heading into Saturday’s encounter.

The match will be broadcast live on Apple TV+, providing fans with accessible viewing options. The subscription costs $14.99 monthly for non-Apple TV subscribers and $12.99 for subscribers, granting access to all MLS matches without blackouts.

Olof Mellberg, who has experience in player development, will be the second full-time head coach in CITY SC history, following Bradley Carnell’s departure after a disappointing previous season. The club also recently acquired $1 million in General Allocation Money through a trade with the Philadelphia Union.
