St. Louis CITY SC Signs Mykhi Joyner as Homegrown Player
St. Louis CITY SC has officially inked a deal with academy forward Mykhi Joyner, securing him as a Homegrown Player in a move that highlights the club’s commitment to nurturing young talent. Joyner, who has excelled in the MLS NEXT Pro league, joins the ranks of fellow homegrown talents Caden Glover, Miguel Perez, and Tyson Pearce in the CITY SC squad.
The signing sees Joyner initially placed on a short-term loan agreement from the club’s MLS NEXT Pro team, St Louis CITY2. Joyner’s immediate availability for the upcoming MLS match against Seattle Sounders FC signals a significant milestone in his young career.
Lutz Pfannenstiel, the Sporting Director at St. Louis CITY SC, expressed pride in the club’s focus on developing homegrown talent. He lauded Joyner for his dedication and hard work since joining the organization back in 2022.
Mykhi Joyner has been enjoying a breakout season in the MLS NEXT Pro level, contributing substantially to CITY2’s impressive record at the top of the Western Conference table. With nine goals and one assist in 14 appearances, Joyner has been a standout performer for the team.
Joyner’s journey to this point includes a memorable MLS NEXT Pro debut where he scored his first professional goal against Tacoma Defiance. His recent performance against LAFC2, where he notched two goals and an assist, has further solidified his position as a promising talent in the league.
As part of the agreement, St. Louis CITY SC has secured Joyner to an MLS Homegrown contract. The deal will see him continue with an MLS NEXT Pro agreement for the remainder of the 2024 season before transitioning into a long-term commitment that extends through 2028 with a club option for 2029.
