Louisville Faces Elimination After Tough Start in College World Series

OMAHA, Neb. — The Louisville baseball team is fighting for its season as they prepare to face Arizona in an elimination game of the College World Series today at 2 p.m. ET. This matchup comes after the Cardinals suffered a narrow 4-3 loss to No. 8 Oregon State in their CWS opener.
In the game against Oregon State, Louisville trailed 3-1 heading into the ninth inning. They managed to tie the game with two runs, but a last-minute struggle in the bottom of the inning ended their hopes.
On the other side, Arizona also faced disappointment after losing 7-4 to No. 13 Coastal Carolina. The Wildcats were competitive but couldn’t capitalize with runners on base, going 3 for 13 with runners in scoring position.
This game marks the second meeting this season between Louisville and Arizona. In their first encounter, the Cardinals won decisively, 13-1, during the Shriners Children’s College Classic in Arlington, Texas.
Coastal Carolina’s victory over Arizona included a rally in the eighth inning, propelled by a two-run double from Blake Barthol. This win pushed Arizona into the elimination bracket where they will now meet Louisville, who is also at risk of being sent home.
The winner of today’s game will continue its journey in the tournament, while the loser will exit the CWS with a 0-2 record. Fans can watch the game live on ESPN.
