Louisville Tops Pitt 34-27, Extending Panthers’ ACC Losing Streak

PITTSBURGH — The University of Pittsburgh Panthers faced off against the University of Louisville Cardinals at Acrisure Stadium on Saturday, seeking to break a five-game ACC losing streak.
But the Panthers’ hopes faded as Louisville secured a 34-27 victory, with Pittsburgh’s offense faltering in the second half. Quarterback Eli Holstein showed promise early, throwing for two touchdowns, but he threw two interceptions that plagued the Panthers’ momentum.
Holstein completed 14 of 26 passes for 259 yards but could not manage the same success after halftime. Pitt‘s rushing game also struggled, totaling just 80 yards on 23 carries, marking the second consecutive game under 100 yards.
On the other side, Louisville quarterback Miller Moss had a strong performance, completing 33 of 51 passes for 339 yards and three touchdowns, along with one interception. His top target, Chris Bell, caught 10 passes for 135 yards and a touchdown.
The game began positively for Pitt, as they led 17-0 in the first quarter, a noted improvement from their previous lackluster start. A highlight came when linebacker Rasheem Biles intercepted a pass and returned it 75 yards for a touchdown, marking an impressive defensive effort.
However, special teams errors later shifted the momentum. A muffed punt by Kenny Johnson led to a Louisville recovery at the Pitt 3-yard line, from where the Cardinals scored. Another fumble by punter Caleb Junko allowed Louisville to tie the game at 17-17.
Before halftime, Holstein connected with Raphael Williams for a touchdown, giving Pitt a brief 27-17 lead. Yet, the second half saw Pitt’s offense struggle, leading to Louisville taking control. Two touchdown passes from Moss to tight ends sealed the game for the Cardinals.
Pitt now looks to regroup before facing Boston College at home next week.
