LSU Golfers Gear Up for U.S. Open at Oakmont

Pittsburgh, PA
Two former LSU golfers, Sam Burns and Philip Barbaree, are set to compete in the 125th U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club, one of the toughest golf courses in the world, on Thursday. Both golfers are eager to showcase their skills on this prestigious stage, while fellow former Tiger John Peterson hopes to secure a spot in the tournament as an alternate.
Burns, 28, recently finished as the runner-up at the Canadian Open, losing to Ryan Fox in a dramatic four-hole sudden-death playoff. The Shreveport native is currently ranked 29th in the FedEx Cup standings and has earned approximately $3.5 million this season, with three top-10 finishes to his name.
Barbaree, 26, also hails from Shreveport and has participated in six events this year on the PGA Tour Americas, making four cuts. His best finish came in his last outing, where he tied for third in Bogota, Colombia. At the U.S. Open sectional qualifier in Emerald Dunes, West Palm Beach, Florida, Barbaree was co-medalist, demonstrating his ability to compete at high levels.
For the U.S. Open, Barbaree’s wife, Chloe, will serve as his caddie. He is scheduled to tee off at 7:57 a.m. while Burns will start at 12:14 p.m. Live coverage of the event will begin at 5:30 a.m. on USA Network.
