Ludvig Åberg Balances Fame and Golf Ahead of Masters

AUGUSTA, Ga. — As the world gears up for the 2025 Masters Tournament, rising golf star Ludvig Åberg is redefining what it means to balance personal life and the pressures of professional golf.
Åberg, a 25-year-old from Sweden, is fresh off a challenging recovery from meniscus surgery in September. Engaged in a vigorous media promotion for Adidas’ new “The Original” golf apparel line, he spent late October at TPC Sawgrass, participating in back-to-back photoshoots and interviews. Despite being away from competitive play, Åberg shared a relaxed perspective on his time off, emphasizing a healthy balance between his profession and personal life.
“Sometimes I feel like I have a little bit better balance off golf course life. I’ve had seven weeks off from a tournament and I feel fine,” Åberg said. “Where some guys, they need to play tournaments… Golf is their identity. I love golf, but I’m not defined by it.”
The young Swede’s outlook is indeed refreshing, contrasting the stereotype of a golf prodigy, driven solely by the sport. “I never had the must of becoming a professional golfer,” Åberg explained, showing a sense of contentment with the flexibility of his career path.
Despite his relative lack of experience in high-pressure situations — competing in his first Masters last year and finishing second — Åberg tackled challenges with an easy-going attitude. During this significant tournament, he faced a critical moment on No. 11. After hitting a 5-iron into the water, he maintained his cool, laughing it off and rallying to birdie the following holes.
“There is no lack of killer mentality. He has all those things,” said Joe Skovron, Åberg’s caddie. “He just has such good perspective… how to make himself get back into that state he needs to succeed.”
Åberg’s unconventional path to golf superstardom began in his youth, taking his time to immerse himself in various sports before focusing on golf. The notion of “lagom,” a Swedish term meaning “just the right amount,” resonates deeply with him, reflecting his approach to competitions and life. This philosophy allows him to approach the sport without losing himself to the demands of success.
With a golf career still ahead of him, Åberg has already earned upward of $20 million before major endorsements. His success on the PGA Tour includes ten top-10 finishes and a significant win at the Genesis Invitational in February.
As attendees flock to Augusta National this week, all eyes will be on Åberg, widely regarded as one of the best players without a major title. “I understand there’s always going to be a lot of expectations outside, from the inside, and I’m OK with that,” he said, embodying a strategic mindset as he prepares for the challenges ahead.
