Luka Doncic Lakers Mavericks Game Highlights

DALLAS, TX — Luka Doncic scored 45 points in his highly anticipated return to Dallas, leading the Los Angeles Lakers to a 112-97 victory over the Mavericks on April 9, 2025. The win allowed the Lakers to secure a playoff spot, solidifying their position in the competitive Western Conference.

Doncic, a five-time All-Star traded to Los Angeles from Dallas two months ago, showcased his talents by matching his season high. He also contributed eight rebounds, six assists, and four steals in the game. This marked his 46th career game scoring 40 or more points.

The Mavericks, who are struggling this season with a 38-42 record, are at risk of finishing below .500 just a year after appearing in the NBA Finals. Dallas managed to stay in the hunt for the final play-in tournament spot, though the loss has put them in a precarious position.

“It was emotional to come back,” Doncic said after the game. “The fans here are incredible, and I’ll always cherish my time with the Mavericks.” He received an emotional tribute before the game and applause from the crowd throughout his performance.

LeBron James contributed significantly to the Lakers’ success, scoring 27 points and grabbing seven rebounds. His performance proved crucial in the fourth quarter, where he accounted for 13 of his total points and helped shift momentum after the Mavericks briefly led 84-83.

Rui Hachimura added 15 points for Los Angeles, which has now won six of its last seven games. Despite falling behind during a tumultuous second half, the Lakers finished strong with a 27-10 run to secure the win.

In Dallas’ effort, Naji Marshall led his team with 23 points and eight assists. PJ Washington also posted 14 points while Anthony Davis, who was part of the trade deal that sent Doncic to Los Angeles, notched a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

The game featured a notable moment in the third quarter when James reached a significant milestone, playing in his 1,561st regular-season game, surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for second place on the NBA list. Only Robert Parish has more career games played.

Looking ahead, both teams will finish their regular seasons at home Friday night. The Mavericks will face the Toronto Raptors, while the Lakers will host the Houston Rockets.
