Lukaku Shines in Napoli Victory Over Como to Maintain Serie A Lead
In a thrilling Italian Serie A match on Friday, Napoli retained their dominant position at the top of the league table by defeating Como 3-1. The match, held at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, saw the home team extend their lead in the standings with a powerful performance led by standout player Romelu Lukaku.
Napoli’s Scott McTominay opened the scoring just 25 seconds into the game. His decisive strike came after a well-timed assist from Romelu Lukaku, sending the ball in off the post from inside the penalty area. Despite numerous opportunities created by the visitors, Como struggled to find the back of the net early on.
Como managed to level the score with a remarkable long-range effort from their side just before halftime. The goal, which found its way through a crowded box, brought the match to a balanced 1-1 at the break.
In the second half, Lukaku continued to demonstrate his influence on the game by successfully converting a penalty. This came after a foul in the box, eight minutes into the half, allowing Napoli to regain their lead. David Neres sealed the victory for Napoli in the 86th minute, capitalizing on a through ball from Lukaku to tuck away their third goal, quelling any ambitions Como had of a comeback.
Reflecting on his performance after the game, Lukaku expressed his satisfaction in a post-match interview with Sky Sport Italia. “I arrived late, but I’m already integrated, all thanks to my teammates, the technical staff, and the fans,” he said. “We have to continue like this, we’ve won again.” Lukaku, who joined Napoli in late August, now boasts three goals and four assists in five appearances for the club.
Despite the victory, Lukaku highlighted areas for improvement, saying, “We also had moments in which, on the counterattack, we could have done better, but we have to review these situations to improve in the future.”
Napoli’s coach, Antonio Conte, can take satisfaction in his team’s performance as they now sit comfortably at the top of Serie A with 16 points, four points ahead of their nearest rivals, who are yet to play their weekend fixture.
