Lynx Eye WNBA Commissioner’s Cup Title in Key Game Against Aces

Minnesota, USA — The Minnesota Lynx are one game away from competing for the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup title as they prepare to face the Las Vegas Aces on Tuesday night at Target Center.
Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve downplayed the significance of the Cup, emphasizing, “That’s a player question” when asked about her team’s motivation. However, Lynx guard Natisha Hiedeman, showcasing her new blond hairstyle, expressed excitement about the stakes, stating, “Your picture’s on a poster. We want to win whatever we can win.”
The Commissioner’s Cup began on June 1 and concludes Tuesday, adding extra incentive to the regular season. The Lynx lead the Western Conference Cup standings at 4-1, securing victories over teams like Dallas and Phoenix. A single defeat to Seattle remains their only blemish.
Napheesa Collier, who leads the WNBA in scoring with an impressive 53.3% shooting efficiency, has been instrumental to the Lynx’s success. Her teammate Courtney Williams praised her consistency, saying, “Our team’s not as good as we is if she don’t show up.”
The Aces, who last played the Lynx in August 2024, are facing challenges as star player A’ja Wilson remains in concussion protocol. Although she will not play, preparations focus on neutralizing her absence while still handling the Aces’ gameplay.
The upcoming match at 7 p.m. is critical for the Lynx, who aim to secure a $500,000 prize and the coveted trophy. Reeve acknowledged the importance of the Cup, saying, “It’s a trophy and it’s ours… Anytime you win, that’s what competitive people do.”
